Animal Behavior

Animal behavior relates to what animals do and why. There are many animal behavior types. These behavior types can be genetically inherited, others are instinctive, while some behaviors can also be learned. It is important to say that there is a strong connection between animal behavior and their nervous system.

Some animals are social and like to live in groups or colonies: hippos, gorillas, dolphins, wolves, for example. Other animals like to live a solitary life: sharks or sloths for example. Some animals are nocturnal; eating and hunting during the night: bats for example; while most of animals are diurnal, being active during the day. Some animals also have very acute senses: vision, hearing or smell. These senses help them spot the prey or to protect themselves from predators. Communication between animals can be visual, auditory or olfactory.
